A global outdoor product brand needed to identify and eliminate energy waste across its store locations without replacing functioning equipment. A Panoramic Power trial across four California stores saved £13,000 during the trial period, identified two faulty systems requiring repair, and identified changes that would cut annual energy costs by 10%.
The Challenge
With rigorous sustainability requirements and cost reduction targets, the brand needed a reliable, non-disruptive way to monitor energy use and identify inefficiencies across its stores. Replacing or upgrading equipment was not the priority. The goal was to extract more value from existing assets by identifying precisely where energy was being wasted and why.
Our Approach
Panoramic Power was deployed as a proof of concept across four of the brand's busiest California locations. Around 150 wireless energy sensors were placed on critical systems, including HVAC units and store lighting. Sensor data was collected in real time on a cloud-based analytics platform, giving a continuous view of equipment performance and energy consumption at circuit level. This level of granularity made it straightforward to identify both equipment faults and operational patterns contributing to unnecessary energy use.
The Results
Monitoring identified a fault in an AC fan system, the repair of which saved £8,000. A faulty HVAC unit was also identified, saving a further £2,000. Analysis of lighting usage showed that adjusting the schedule during closed hours would cut annual energy costs by 10%. In total, the trial delivered savings of £13,000 across the four stores (site dependent), with a projected full return on investment within 18 months. Panoramic Power has since been rolled out to additional locations across the brand's wider network.
