The Challenge
HVAC represented a significant portion of the building's total energy consumption, and reducing it was central to the client's environmental commitments. Replacing the existing system outright was not viable given the capital cost and operational disruption involved. The priority was a retrofit solution that could increase efficiency without touching what was already working.
Our Approach
Smartcool's ECO3™ technology was installed on a Mitsubishi inverter heat pump system. The client chose to begin with a single system to validate performance before any broader commitment. A Panoramic Power sub-metering system monitored device-level energy consumption throughout, enabling a direct comparison between periods with the technology active and periods with it bypassed. All data was reported wirelessly and made available for independent review.
The Results
The comparison produced a 25% reduction in the energy consumed by the monitored system (site dependent), with no measurable effect on occupant comfort. At a rate of 40p/kWh, this translates to a payback period of 22.2 months and a return on investment of 54%.
