NHS Avon & Wiltshire: Lansdowne House | 32% Energy Reduction
Avon and Wiltshire NHS Trust invited Smartcool to conduct a proof-of-concept study at Lansdowne House. ECO3™ was installed on two refrigeration systems, delivering a 32% reduction in energy consumption and projected annual savings of over 8,700 kWh.
Higher energy rates result in shorter payback periods and higher ROI.
The Challenge
As part of its broader sustainability commitment, Avon and Wiltshire NHS Trust was actively seeking ways to reduce energy consumption and lower carbon emissions across its estate. Smartcool was invited to demonstrate what could be achieved at Lansdowne House through a carefully monitored proof-of-concept trial on the building's refrigeration systems.
Our Approach
Smartcool's engineers completed the ECO3™ installation on two refrigeration systems at Lansdowne House in April 2021. Device-level wireless energy monitoring was provided by Panoramic Power, with consumption data transmitted in real time to a cloud-based dashboard. This gave both the Trust and Smartcool a transparent, continuous view of the results throughout the trial period.
The Results
The pilot proved highly successful. Average energy consumption across the two refrigeration systems fell by 32% (site dependent) at a rate of 9.216p/kWh, with projected annual savings of over 8,700 kWh. The results demonstrate the potential of ECO3™ to deliver meaningful energy reductions across NHS refrigeration assets with no disruption to operations and no mechanical modification to existing equipment.
