Smartcool's Energy Saving Module™ (ESM™) and ECO3™ optimize the operation of compressors in air conditioning, refrigeration and heat pump systems. Optimizing compressor performance is important from since this equipment accounts for about 70% of the total electrical consumption in air conditioning and refrigeration systems. In turn, these cooling systems are the second largest users of electricity in buildings, after lighting. By optimizing compressor operations, companies save on energy bills, improve margins and help meet green commitments to their customers, business associates and governments.
More than 26,000 Smartcool products have been installed in facilities around the world in the last 20 years.  Smartcool is reducing greenhouse gas emissions by an estimated 260,000 tons and electricity use by 221,000 megawatts each year. This is enough electricity to supply 18,000 homes at Canadian levels of energy consumption (one of the highest in the world).

Distribution channels on every continent are helping to drive Smartcool's growth on an international scale. Going forward, Smartcool plans to increase sales and marketing efforts in warm-weather markets such as the US Sunbelt, Australia and Asia. Today, Smartcool has distribution agreements in place with over 30 qualified partners around the world.

Proven Cost and Energy Savings

  • Sainsbury's: One of the leading food retailers in the UK, Sainsbury's launched an energy efficiency retrofit program to reduce the carbon footprint of its supermarkets as well as reduce operating costs.  Smartcool's ESM™ was initially tested on the refrigeration system at a store in Hampshire, UK, with extremely positive results.  Over a four week period, the ESM™ demonstrated average daily energy savings of 412 kWh, which equates to an annual savings of 150,380 kWh.  These results led Sainsbury's to roll out the ESM™ to 30 more stores in 2009.
  • PEER 1: PEER 1 is one of the top five hosting providers in the world, with data centers around the globe.  Smartcool's ECO3™ was installed on two air conditioning units in PEER 1's Vancouver data center on a trial basis.  Results showed an annual energy savings of 18,410 kWh, giving PEER 1 an annual financial savings over $1,400.
